Gabriel Attal’s enormous gamble

  • Gabriel Attal has been named as its youngest prime minister.
  • Marine Le Pen’s National Rally has risen to ten points in the polls.
  • The first task for Gabriel Attal will be to create the next government.

Since the founding of the modern French state, Gabriel Attal, the Minister of Education of France, has been named as its youngest prime minister.

Being one of the most well-liked members of Emmanuel Macron’s administration, Attal’s selection is a tacit admission that Macron needs Attal’s goodwill and aura to mitigate the losses his party will suffer in June’s European elections and lend credibility to his second term.

Gabriel Attal

Emmanuel Macron finds himself in a challenging situation where many are questioning his crucial judgments and his proposed reforms. He is frequently accused by his fellow citizens of being unconcerned with the rest of society while championing the interests of the elite.

Due to the ongoing concerns that France faces, including inequality, security, immigration, and identity politics, Marine Le Pen’s National Rally has risen to ten points in the polls.

The first task for Gabriel Attal will be to create the next government and figure out how to carry out Macron’s reform agenda, which has now veered to the right as the French president seeks to win over conservative supporters to stem the tide of support for the far-right party of Marine Le Pen.

A lot of the game will depend on Gabriel Attal’s management, so his choice won’t necessarily result in a significant political change. But as Emmanuel Macron did around seven years ago, he has the tools to reshape his ideological territory.
