Former Captain of the South Africa Criticizes a Retirement Article

A media outlet in Australia published an article about the former women’s captain of South Africa, Dane Van Niekerk, and she criticized it.

The now-deleted article claimed that the player was fat-shamed for failing to match the team’s fitness requirements and was thus passed over for the recently-completed ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

The South African ladies advanced to the event’s final, making them the first Protea team, male or female, to do so.

After her shocking fat-shaming episode last month, “international cricket sensation Dane van Niekerk is likely to retire at the age of just 29,” the story stated.
