Current Updates on the Iran-Israel Conflict

  • Gilad Erdan has urged the Security Council to use all appropriate sanctions against the country.
  • Monday’s flights were disrupted worldwide, with at least twelve airlines having to cancel.
  • American troops assisted Israel in destroying almost all of the drones and missiles fired by Iran on Saturday.

In response to Iran’s unprecedented attack on Israel, Israel’s UN envoy, Gilad Erdan, has urged the Security Council to use all appropriate sanctions against the country.

The UN representative claimed that the Security Council had failed in its responsibility to uphold global peace and security and that Iran was defending its “inherent right to self-defense” in the strike. Tehran was forced to reply as a result, stating that his nation would deal with any “threat or aggression” but did not seek escalation or war.

Iran-Israel War

Monday’s flights were disrupted worldwide, with at least twelve airlines having to cancel or reschedule flights in the previous two days. Since the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center, there has never been a single flight disruption as large as this one.

According to a senior US military officer, Iran unleashed a volley of more than 150 attack drones, more than 30 land-attack cruise missiles, and more than 100 medium-range ballistic missiles against Israel.

Over 80 one-way attack unmanned aerial vehicles (OWA UAV) and at least six ballistic missiles that were headed toward Israel from Iran and Yemen were effectively engaged and destroyed by US forces.

In the Situation Room at the White House on Saturday night, President Joe Biden was updated in real-time as the attack progressed. After Iran launched unprecedented drone and missile attacks on Israeli territory, Israeli Minister Benny Gantz declared that Israel would determine the best moment and means of retaliation and “exact the price from Iran”.

The sort of confrontation between the Middle Eastern countries that the world had long feared would signal the outbreak of a full-fledged regional war was demonstrated by the massive salvo of missiles and drones fired toward Israel from the parched plains of Iran.

President Joe Biden stated that American troops assisted Israel in destroying almost all of the drones and missiles fired by Iran on Saturday, but he also suggested that Israel had now demonstrated its might, which seemed to dissuade the important US partner from taking revenge on Tehran. In another move to prevent a military confrontation that would spark a larger battle in the Middle East, he called a meeting of other G7 leaders to plan a diplomatic reaction against Tehran.
