Cyclone Michaung latest updates: 144 ban in Puducherry, heavy rain warning in Tamil Nadu

As Cyclone ‘Michaung’ is expected to make landfall over southern Andhra Pradesh and northern coastal areas of Tamil Nadu tonight, several parts of Chennai are experiencing continued heavy rains with strong winds.

Cyclone Maichang is located about 100 km east-northeast of Chennai.

During the last 6 hours, it is expected to move at a speed of 10 km/hr and move in a northwesterly direction and is expected to become a severe cyclonic storm at 4 PM today.

Also, it is expected to move parallel to North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra coast and cross Nellore – Machilipatnam at 4 pm tomorrow. Heavy rain and gusty winds are likely to continue in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, and Thiruvallur districts till this evening.

Puducherry district administration has imposed an IPC 144 Prohibitory Order in coastal areas of Puducherry. To prevent loss of life and property, the district administration has banned the movement of all persons in the coastal areas adjacent to the beach from 7 pm onwards. December 3 to 6 PM.
