Tuesday saw strong gusts and heavy rainfall over the East Coast. A large portion of the northeast was predicted to receive seven and a half centimeters or more of rain.

In 12 states, the storms have caused power outages for nearly 418,000 homes and businesses. There will be more snow in the Midwest and Great Lakes region, with blizzard conditions expected in several areas.

Up to 20 centimeters of snow are falling on the eastern and northern fringes of the storm engulfing the East Coast, and strong winds are predicted. As the storm system moves away on Wednesday, conditions should improve, according to forecasters.

There are blizzard conditions due to a different storm system in the Pacific Northwest, with several feet of snow falling at higher altitudes in the Cascade mountains of Washington and Oregon.
