Kane Williamson, the captain of New Zealand, will probably miss the one-day World Cup in India later this year due to a ruptured knee ligament, it was disclosed on Thursday.
According to New Zealand Cricket, the star batsman requires surgery after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while playing defense for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League.
Setback to New Zealand
The 32-year-old would “unlikely” be fit to play in the ODI World Cup, which begins in October, according to Black Caps coach Gary Stead. The Black Caps, who have never won the World Cup but have placed second in the last two competitions, would suffer greatly without Williamson.
Williamson said in a statement, “Naturally it’s disappointing to sustain such an injury, but my emphasis now is on having the surgery and beginning rehab.
