The world No. 2 Iga Swiatek defeated the top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka in the WTA Finals, paving the way for a matchup with Jessica Pegula in the Cancun final stage. Swiatek took a step toward regaining her world No. 1 ranking in the WTA Finals with her straight-set victory over Sabalenka.

The ranked second in the world, Swiatek, defeated the ranked first player, Sabalenka, 6-3 6-2, on Sunday in Mexico to record her 67th victory of the year and her 10th consecutive win.

The rainy weather that has been a recurring theme throughout the tournament caused the match, which started on Saturday, to be suspended after the fourth game. On Sunday, play resumed, and in just over ninety minutes, Swiatek defeated Sabalenka in the opening game.

The 22-year-old Polish tennis player Swiatek showed her joy after winning more than 75% of her service points in a challenging yet enjoyable match.

As players have been criticizing Steve Simon more and more lately—especially regarding the choice to hold the WTA Finals outside in Cancun—Martina Navratilova feels that Simon ought to be replaced as the organization’s head.

After the first day of group play, players, including World No. 1 Sabalenka, have been criticizing Simon, who has served as the organization’s chairman and CEO for eight years, claiming to be “disrespected” by the level of organization at the prestigious event.

Rain and strong winds caused the semi-final between Swiatek and Sabalenka to be postponed until Monday, when the tournament was originally scheduled to end on November 5. The players made adjustments, according to Navratilova, but rain was unavoidable at the WTA Tour’s main event. In her opinion, athletes need to take responsibility for their poor choices and move on.

In conclusion, because of the growing player criticism, Martina Navratilova feels that Steve Simon ought to be the new WTA president. In her opinion, to guarantee the tournament’s ongoing success, the WTA must address the problems and make better choices.
