For the first time in over a century, cricket will return to the Olympic stage at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Pomona city in Southern California is designated as the host venue.

Ireland’s Olympic Voice Strengthens as Cricket Finds Its Place in LA 2028

The inclusion of cricket in the LA 2028 Olympics is a landmark decision. It is supported by the sport’s growing international profile and lobbying from key cricket boards. Hosting the event in Pomona aligns with efforts to spread Olympic venues across the greater Los Angeles region. This aims to engage diverse sporting communities.

Pomona, with its infrastructure and multicultural demographics, provides a fitting backdrop for the sport’s re-entry onto the Olympic stage. Cricket is expected to feature in the T20 format, making it fast-paced and spectator-friendly, aligning with modern Olympic trends.

In Ireland, the newly formed Athletes’ Commission is positioned to be a strong voice in shaping the country’s Olympic future. The commission not only offers direct representation from athletes. It also serves as a crucial advisory body within the Olympic Federation’s governance.

Aifric Keogh, the new Chair, emphasized her pride in representing athletes and fostering unity among disciplines. With Billy Dardis as Vice-Chair, the commission brings a well-rounded leadership duo committed to transparency, advocacy, and growth.

As cricket prepares for a historic Olympic comeback and Ireland invests in strong athlete representation, both stories reflect a broader commitment to innovation, inclusion, and athlete empowerment in global sport.

“To be elected Chair of the Athletes’ Commission is a huge honour. Representing the voice of the athletes is a responsibility I take great pride in.”
Aifric Keogh, Chair, OFI Athletes’ Commission
