Latest updates on moon sightings during Eid-al-Fitr 2024

  • The Shawwal crescent moon sighting determines the date of the Eid celebration.
  • On April 10, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar have declared that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed.
  • Families and friends are exchanging visits and indulging in customary treats, creating a “open house” atmosphere.

The Shawwal crescent moon sighting determines the date of the Eid celebration. Easter is set on April 10 in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, while India’s Eid al-Fitr 2024 is anticipated to fall on April 10 or 11.

Experts think that the total solar eclipse may interfere with the lunar sighting, pushing it back to April 9, 2024. The month-long fast of Ramadan comes to an end on Eid.

Eid-al-Fitr 2024

On April 10, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar have declared that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed. During Ramadan, demonstrators in Jordan have been taking to the city’s streets, transforming the holy month into a demonstration of support for the Palestinian people in Gaza.

The end of the month-long fast will be marked by the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, which Saudi Arabia has announced will start on Wednesday. Warmest wishes for Eid Al Fitr were sent by the rulers of Bahrain and Oman as well as UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

At the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Solo, Indonesia, the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has stepped up its Ramadan activities, serving 12,000 Iftar meals a day. The demolition of the ‘Akhoondji mosque’ in Mehrauli was prohibited by the Delhi High Court from hosting prayers during Ramadan and Eid.

On May 7, a similar matter will be filed along with an appeal by Muntazmia Committee Madarsa Behrul Ulum and Kabarstan, contesting a single judge’s decision to reject its request for authorization for devotees to enter the mosque for Ramadan and Eid prayers.

For Eid, Muslims in Malaysia observe a homecoming custom that begins with morning prayers in the mosque, followed by visiting loved ones’ graves and pleading for forgiveness from family and friends. Families and friends are exchanging visits and indulging in customary treats, creating a “open house” atmosphere.
