  • It emphasizes the need for coordinated efforts to manage complexity and promote an innovative culture.

To promote sustainable development efforts, Morocco’s National Agency for the Development of Oasis Zones and Argan Trees (ANDZOA) has helped generate 124,000 jobs between 2013 and 2022.

The thirteenth meeting of ANDZOA’s Board of Directors, held in Rabat under the direction of Minister Mohammed Sadiki, showcased the organization’s multidimensional approach that integrates environmental stewardship, social empowerment, and economic development.

In part because of public spending reaching MAD 125 billion between 2012 and 2022, the agency’s efforts have resulted in a considerable decrease in poverty rates from 13.4% in 2007 to 6.01% in 2022. In addition, the organization has increased educational possibilities and improved living conditions, such as access to clean water and electrification in rural areas.

In the province of Tiznit, ANDZOA has been a success story, having contributed 47% of the money for 171 development projects valued at MAD 402 million ($42 million) between 2012 and 2023. Tafraout’s Almond Festival honored these accomplishments and emphasized ANDZOA’s critical role in the development of the area.

To strengthen oasis zones’ resilience in the face of climate change and recurrent droughts, ANDZOA’s future vision prioritizes resilience, inclusion, and innovation. The organization sees thriving oasis villages in the future, with improved educational opportunities and easy access to basic utilities.

It also recognizes the difficulties that lie ahead and emphasizes the need for coordinated efforts to manage complexity, shift focus to high-value industries, and promote an innovative culture.
