74 Fishermen were Arrested by Sri Lanka this Year Alone

This year alone, 74 Tamil Nadu anglers have been captured by the Sri Lankan Naval force, the Focal Government has informed.

DMK MP Kanimozhi brought up an issue about the capture of Tamil Nadu anglers while the storm meeting of the Parliament is going on.

In a composed answer to this, the focal government said that 74 Tamil Nadu anglers have been captured by the Sri Lankan Naval force this year alone.

The Service of Outside Issues said that means are being taken to guarantee understanding with the concerned nations for the wellbeing of Indian anglers.

  • According to the information shared by the CM, from 2020 to date, the Sri Lankan Naval force has caught 619 Tamil Nadu anglers.
  • And held onto 83 fishing boats in 48 episodes.
  • Hence, the Sri Lankan specialists delivered 604 anglers and 16 boats because of the endeavors made by the state and Center.

In 2023 alone, as per the Tamil Nadu government, the Sri Lankan Naval force captured 74 anglers. Of the 74 anglers, 59 were delivered and localized to the state.

Another issue that the Tamil Nadu CM asked PM Modi, to talk about with the Sri Lankan President was that of the held onto boats of Indian anglers and mentioning the Sri Lankan government to make vital alterations to pull out the nationalization of caught fishing boats.

He brought up that the Public authority of Sri Lanka altered its Fisheries Act in 2018, empowering Sri Lanka to nationalize unfamiliar fishing boats.
