Ian Holtz, former Bybit NFT head, now joins Amazon Web

The Web3 startup for APAC and Japan will be led by Ian Holtz, formerly the global head of NFTs for Bybit, as of today, according to a LinkedIn announcement.

The announcement follows CEO Andy Jassy’s April 2022 declaration that the e-commerce behemoth would begin selling NFTs. However, JC published a note in November about the company’s role cuts, stating that the job cuts might last until 2023.

Over the past twenty years of his career, Holtz has been the leader of and founder of numerous Web2 and Web3 businesses. He co-founded the full-service blockchain marketing and application development firm Syxx, from which he joins AWS.

This month, he gave up his co-founding position. Before that, he founded YogaTime, a native iOS and Android app that was specifically created for him.

Between March and July 2022, during his brief employment with Bybit, he deployed the new NFT Business Unit team, which reported directly to the CEO, drove F1 Red Bull Racing to its debut appearance at the Monaco Grand Prix, and inked a sponsorship agreement with Brazilian footballer Casemiro.

He worked as the Senior Product and Project Manager at DAZN, the top blockchain platform for Japanese Professional Soccer, before joining Bybit. He founded Ephelion between 2017 and 2019, a decentralized exchange with 100,000 users and a $1 million daily trading volume.

Business administration and psychology are Holtz’s areas of expertise. Holtz previously oversaw client services, business development, and sales for organizations in the IT, software development, advertising, technology, and mental health care sectors before entering the blockchain and Web3 spaces.

In a LinkedIn post about his new position, Holtz expressed excitement about the opportunity to support the region’s inspiring Web 3 founders as they create and scale the web’s future.
