On Canada Day, Canadians celebrate their national variety and liberties

On Saturday, Indigenous drumming and singing rang out alongside songs and shouts as the nation’s diversity and freedom were celebrated. The COVID-19 pandemic forced years’ worth of cancellations, and celebrations were finally resumed in towns across the nation.

But for some, the return to routine was hampered by poor weather and air quality, which made them cancel major activities like fireworks displays.

The Canada Day

Despite these difficulties, Canadians and dignitaries alike took the opportunity to emphasize the customs of Indigenous peoples and other cultures. At a Canada Day celebration in Ottawa, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau remarked that the nation had overcome difficulties like wildfires and war in Europe by displaying compassion, engagement, openness, and democracy.

Numerous events commemorating the 156th anniversary of Canada’s confederation took place beneath foggy skies engulfed in smoke from recent wildfires. Many of Quebec’s on-island suburbs, as well as Montreal, had their fireworks displays canceled due to air quality concerns. For the city’s first Canada Day parade since 2019, hundreds of spectators crowded a 12-block route in the downtown area.

Adriana Shervan, who was watching the march with her mother, saw it as an occasion to honor the diversity and freedoms that Canada has to offer. She claimed that although she was born here, her parents are from Iran. What makes our country lovely is the fact that it is culturally diverse and respects all cultures.

The governor general, Mary Simon, also spoke on stage, expressing her pride in living in a nation that is attempting to improve while addressing both domestic and international issues.

Hours after local Indigenous elders talked about the need to conserve Earth and take climate change seriously, however, activities in Ottawa were eventually postponed owing to severe weather advisories.

Thousands of people gathered in Vancouver’s downtown Canada Place for a celebration of the country’s diversity that included live music, First Nations dancers, and several family-friendly activities.
