Landslides Brought on by Severe Rain Cut off North Sikkim

At Pegong, National Highway 10 was submerged by a flash flood in the North Sikkim area, severely damaging the road’s infrastructure and making it dangerous for traffic.

In addition to cleaning debris, authorities are evaluating the situation. The cancellation of visitor licenses for North Sikkim, Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir, and Nathula.

Severe Rain Cut off North Sikkim

The infrastructure along the route has suffered significant damage from the flash flood, making any type of motor travel dangerous. According to officials, a flash flood struck the North Sikkim area and flooded National Highway 10 in Pegong on Friday.

On Thursday evening, North Sikkim was hit hard by rain, which caused adjacent rivers to overflow and cause a flash flood to swallow the roadway.

North Sikkim’s Lachen and Lachung were cut off from the rest of the state by a flash flood. According to officials, the flash flood severely damaged the infrastructure along the route, making it dangerous for any type of automotive activity.

The Border Roads Organisation is working to clear the debris and bring the situation back to normal while local officials examine the issue. The highway’s reopening to traffic, however, is anticipated to take some time, they added.

Landslides near the 13th mile, Thulo Khola, and Rail Khola on the Gangtok-Nathula route have also closed the road.

Until further notice, all visitor licenses to Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir, Nathula, and North Sikkim have been revoked.
