After defeating Irene Aldana to keep her bantamweight title at UFC 289 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Amanda Nunes declared her retirement. Nunes outhit her opponent throughout the fight. She spent some time with nerve damage in one leg and wants to go down in history as the greatest female boxer ever.
In the future, Nunes hopes to continue her involvement in mixed martial arts and coach a female champion, but she will first take some time to visit her wife and family in Brazil. Aldana received many elbows to the face, one of which caused a wound on her face.

Dana White, president of the UFC, commended Nunes as an inspiration to the sport and a superb competitor. After the fight, Aldana was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
