Who will Win in the IPL Final in 2023?

Incessant rain on May 28 forced the postponement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 Final, which will now take place on May 29 and feature the defending champion Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings.

At around 11 PM local time, the game was abandoned because the unusually heavy rain in Ahmedabad wouldn’t let up. The game was postponed to the next day without a bowl being made, and the teams will now reopen play on May 29.

IPL 2023

The Indian Meteorological Department predicts that the weather will be partly overcast with a maximum humidity of 77% on the reserve day as well. However, there is less risk of rain, making a full-fledged T20 match feasible. Even so, the forecast may alter by the time the sun sets or even earlier.

Here are some potential outcomes for the anomaly of a second straight rainy day during peak summer, especially in Ahmedabad, a city in western India where the match is scheduled to take place: Even with a start time of 9:35 PM India time, which is slightly over two hours after the scheduled start time of 7:30 PM, the game can last the whole duration (20 overs for each side).

  • The game was abandoned due to heavy rain, reopening on May 29.
  • The Indian Meteorological Department predicts partly overcast weather on the reserve day, allowing for a T20 match.
  • Rain must stop by 11 PM to prepare a pitch for the five-over competition.

If the final begins at 9:45 PM, it will be a 19-over contest for each team. In addition, the IPL Final in 2023 will include a 15-over game (each side) with a 10:30 PM start and a 17-over game (each side) with a start time of 10 PM.

The deadline for a five-over competition is 12:06 AM, effective the following day (30th May), although the rain must stop by 11 PM for ground staff to have enough time to prepare the pitch.

If even a five-over contest is canceled, the winner will be determined by a Super Over, for which the field must be prepared by 1:20 AM on May 30.

The team that placed higher on the league table will be named the victor in the worst-case scenario, even if the reserve day is rained out. It implies that Gujarat Titans, who finished first in the league with 20 points, will be crowned IPL 2023 champions, defeating Chennai Super Kings, who placed second with 17.
