Stanley Kakubo, the foreign minister of Zambia, resigned in the face of intense public outrage over his suspected business transactions with a Chinese businessman.

The president’s administration made the declaration on Tuesday, December 26, some hours after a social media flurry sparked by a video showing people counting large amounts of cash.

Kakubo Kabuko, the president of Zambia, resigned in the wake of a scandal concerning a Chinese business deal involving a mining company in Zambia.

The controversy gained momentum with the viral social media posting of a handwritten note and video that purported to show transactions between a Chinese mining company and a Zambian company. On July 8, 2022, there was a note with the names Kakubo and a specific “Mr. Zang”.

Kabuko’s departure was officially announced by the president’s office, which also praised his outstanding leadership and work during his term.

Kabuko, a member of parliament since 2016, however, declared that he would stay “loyal” to the government and thathe resigned to ensure that the government’s focus is on finding ways to improve the lives of the people.
