Moroccans Are the Top Foreign Company Owners

  • Moroccans held the top spot among foreign entrepreneurs in Italy.
  • When it comes to non-European populations with residency permits, Moroccans lead the pack.
  • According to the figures, 86,200 Moroccans became citizens of EU member states in 2021.

According to recent data released on Thursday by the Italian Observatory Infocamere, Moroccans held the top spot among foreign entrepreneurs in Italy.

With 12.1% of the businesses established by immigrant communities in Italy, Moroccans topped the list, followed by Bangladesh, China, Romania, and Albania. When it comes to non-European populations with residency permits, Moroccans lead the pack.

According to the statistics, 400,000 Moroccans, followed by Albanians and Ukrainians, own residency permits in Italy. According to the data, there will be a general rise in the number of non-EU nationals with valid residency permits in Italy in 2022.

Over 3.7 million people in Italy had valid residency permits as of January 1, 2023, a 4.7% increase from the same period the previous year. Additionally, according to data from the previous year, Morocco came in third place among the top 10 countries that received residency permits in Italy in 2022.

52 new citizens of Albanian and 44 of Moroccan descent were born for every 100 foreign residents, according to data released by the Italian National Institute of Statistics last year.

The statistics provider noted that family reunification—which accounted for more than 73% of Moroccan entries in 2021—is the primary reason for entering Italy for all ten of the top foreign communities in the nation.

The European Commission’s directorate general, Eurostat, stated in March of this year that Moroccans are among the primary recipients of EU Member State citizenship.

According to the figures, 86,200 Moroccans became citizens of EU member states in 2021. France and Spain accounted for about 7% of the citizenships awarded.
