With Miller, South Africa aspires to make history

  • South Africa lost to the Netherlands at 140/7 in the 34th over.
  • South Africa’s fielding has also gotten shoddy, which has allowed the Netherlands to score 245/8.
  • The play was delayed for about two hours, reducing the match to a 43-over-per-side competition.

In a rain-affected encounter in Dharamsala, South Africa lost to the Netherlands at 140/7 in the 34th over. Leading the remarkable comeback was captain Scott Edwards, who scored 64 runs off only 37 balls with former South African player Roelof van der Merwe.

Aryan Dutt, who was ranked No. 10, entered and hit three sixes. Since the slaughter started, South Africa’s fielding has also gotten shoddy, which has allowed the Netherlands to score 245/8. Edwards had 78 of 69 and was undefeated.

Netherlands vs South Africa

With skipper Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock putting up a solid first stand, South Africa appeared to be off to a fantastic start. However, between the eighth and the twelfth overs, they crumbled, going from 36/0 to 44/4.

With the score at 89, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller went down. Kagiso Rabada scored two wickets in the early going, and Gerald Coetzee and Marco Jansen each claimed one. After 32 more runs were added by Sybrand Engelbrecht and Teja Nidamanuru, Rabada gave South Africa another breakthrough.

The play was delayed for about two hours, reducing the match to a 43-over-per-side competition. Gerald Coetzee replaced Tabraiz Shamsi in the Proteas playing XI, and Logan van Beek replaced Ryan-Klein in the Netherlands playing XI. Both teams made one change each.

South Africa is trying to continue its winning streak because they have won both of their previous games handily, giving them the highest net run rate (NRR) among the 10 teams.

Gerald Coetzee is on 17 off 11 and David Miller of South Africa is on 30 off 41. South Africa defeated the Netherlands 122/6 in 26.4 overs, with Van Meekeren cleanly dismissing Marco Jansen. When Jansen fails to catch a length from Van Meekeren, the ball strikes his stumps.

After Bas de Leede, an important Netherlands fielder, drops the ball, David Miller is given a second chance. Miller smacks the ball high into the sky, while Van der Merwe is the bowler.

The ball nearly slips out of De Leede’s hands and crashes onto the ground, crossing the boundary, despite his best efforts to position himself below. South African 24.4 overs yielded 107/5.
