In an effort to strengthen stability and security on the Korean Peninsula, Chinese President Xi Jinping stated on Saturday that he will seriously consider traveling to South Korea.

Before Saturday’s Asian Games opening ceremony, Xi met with Han in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou. Xi hasn’t been to South Korea since 2014.

The declaration of collaboration occurred before trilateral meetings between top representatives of China, Japan, and South Korea, which were to be held in Seoul on September 26.

The first summit between the three countries in four years was to be set up by the results of these discussions. Xi informed Han that he would welcome such a summit at the appropriate time.

Neither Xi’s remark nor a trip to Seoul were mentioned in a Chinese statement. According to CCTV, Xi stated that China places a high value on South Korea‘s good attitude to commit to cooperation and urged South Korea to meet China halfway to maintain the course of friendly cooperation.
