USAID Challenges Hamas Theft Claims as Gaza Starves

  • A USAID analysis finds no evidence Hamas diverted U.S. humanitarian aid.
  • Over 900,000 children in Gaza now face starvation amid widespread food insecurity.
  • Ceasefire negotiations collapse again as the humanitarian toll mounts.

An internal analysis by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has concluded there is no substantiated evidence that Hamas systematically diverted U.S.-funded humanitarian supplies in Gaza.

On the ground, Gaza’s humanitarian crisis continues to worsen, with starvation deaths reaching 114, most of them children. Reports from hospitals and aid agencies indicate that over 900,000 children are affected by food scarcity, with 70,000 suffering from clinical malnutrition.

Starvation Rises in Gaza as USAID Finds No Evidence of Hamas Stealing U.S. Aid

The USAID report, finalized in June but previously unreported, raises critical questions about the justification for involving private, armed contractors like the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. The GHF, operated by a former CIA operative and military veterans, has taken over some aid operations amid Israeli claims that traditional UN agencies are vulnerable to Hamas interference. However, the USAID findings suggest that these drastic measures may have been built on unfounded allegations.

Ceasefire negotiations, once seen as a glimmer of hope, have now stalled. U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff announced the withdrawal of American mediators from Qatar after accusing Hamas of lacking seriousness. Hamas representatives, however, criticized the U.S. stance as politically motivated, asserting their continued commitment to a “comprehensive and viable” deal. With neither side budging, the war—now in its 21st month—continues to grind on with devastating consequences for civilians.

The collapse of the latest talks has sparked international frustration, with France now declaring its intention to formally recognize the State of Palestine. This political shift signals growing discontent with the lack of resolution and may prompt other nations to follow suit. Still, the humanitarian emergency remains urgent, with food, water, and medicine becoming increasingly inaccessible to Gaza’s 2.1 million residents.

Public health conditions are deteriorating rapidly. Aside from starvation, Gaza faces outbreaks of waterborne illnesses due to infrastructure collapse and restricted access to clean water. Aid organizations including Oxfam have issued emergency appeals, warning that the enclave is nearing total systemic failure. Children, already the most vulnerable, are bearing the brunt of the crisis, with many now beyond recovery.

As Gaza’s civilian toll climbs and diplomatic efforts falter, the world is left confronting a crisis shaped as much by politics as by humanitarian need.

“The first casualty of war is truth.” — Aeschylus
This resonates deeply in Gaza, where contested narratives obscure urgent humanitarian realities.
