Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, pledged to keep combat-ready and strategic nuclear forces in place during his annual Victory Day speech on Thursday. He underlined that while Russia will not accept threats, it will make every effort to avert a world war.
Putin expects that amid Russian advances in Ukraine, the parade commemorating the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II will inspire patriotism.

He underlined that, despite sanctions, Russia must update its armaments and employ foreign components to produce them.

Former head of the Ukrainian army Valeriy Zaluzhnyi was named ambassador to the United Kingdom by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
