In 2022, There were More Indian Students in the US

Asia is becoming the most common continent of origin due to the number of students from China and India. China sent fewer students in 2022 than in 2021 (-24,796), but India sent more (+64,300), similar to the decline from 2020 to 2021, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement reported in its annual report.

The number of overseas students enrolled in kindergarten through grade 12 schools increased by 7.8% from 2021 to 2022 (+3,887), according to the Student and Exchange Visitor Programme (SEVP). Similar to 2021, no K–12 schools had more than 700 foreign students, according to the report.

The report noted that from 2021 to 2022, international student records increased in all four US areas, ranging from 8% to 11%.

According to the study, there were 1.4% more pre- and post-completion optional practical training students in 2022 than there were in 2021: 117,301 had employment authorization documents and reported working for an employer.

According to the report, 7,683 SEVP-certified schools were qualified to accept students from abroad in 2022, down from 8,038 in 2021 (by 400 institutions).

According to the research, California hosted 225,173 international students in 2022, making up the greatest share (16.5%) of any US state.

A 15% increase from 240,479 active exchange tourists in 2021 to 276,723 active exchange visitors in 2022 may be seen in the US.

According to the research, 46% (6,21,347) of all SEVIS records that were active in 2022 were from either China (3,24,196) or India (2,97,151), down one percentage point from 2021.

Between 2021 and 2022, 68,678 more active F-1 and M-1 student records came from Asia overall. Asia is the home continent for 70% of all foreign students studying in the US. Saudi Arabia (-4,115), Kuwait (-658), and Malaysia (-403) are some Asian nations that sent fewer students this year compared to last.
