Finland leads the 2024 World Happiness Report once more

  • Finland is the happiest nation for the seventh year in a row.
  • India coming in at position 126 out of 143.
  • Sweden coming in close behind in fourth place and Denmark and Iceland holding onto their spots in second and third place, respectively.

Finland is the happiest nation for the seventh year in a row, according to the 2024 World Happiness Report, with India coming in at position 126 out of 143. Every year, the survey assesses happiness levels in more than 140 countries by taking into account variables including social support, money, health, independence, charity, and the lack of corruption.

Each year on March 20, the International Day of Happiness, data is released from a variety of sources, including the Gallup World Poll. The Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, Gallup, and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network are among the partners.

World Happiness Countries

The top rankings are dominated by Nordic nations, with Sweden coming in close behind in fourth place and Denmark and Iceland holding onto their spots in second and third place, respectively.

Costa Rica and Lithuania, with numbers 12 and 19, respectively, are the first two countries to enter the top 20 list. Afghanistan continues to be the unhappiest nation, followed by Congo, Lesotho, Sierra Leone, and Lebanon.

Out of 143 nations, China, Nepal, Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh were ranked higher than India, which came in at number 126. The survey also looked at patterns in happiness across all age groups, with Denmark taking the top rank for people over 60 and Lithuania emerging as the happiest nation for those under 30.

Being alone is a serious problem, especially in the US, as younger generations—Millennials in particular—report feeling more alone than members of older demographics. Because the rankings are based on a three-year average, which lessens the immediate effects of catastrophic events like the conflict with Hamas, Israel comes in fifth place in the report.
