  • The goal of the NASA Administrator’s upcoming visits to India and the UAE is to strengthen bilateral collaboration.
  • Nelson is scheduled to tour Bengaluru-based facilities where NASA and ISRO are working together.
  • Students from every nation will have the chance to meet with Nelson during the visit.

The goal of NASA Administrator Bill Nelson’s upcoming visits to India and the United Arab Emirates is to strengthen bilateral collaboration in innovation and research-related fields, especially Earth science and human exploration, through meetings with prominent government and space officials.

President Joe Biden launched a US-India initiative on critical and emerging technologies, which includes this visit.

NASA administrator

Nelson is scheduled to tour Bengaluru-based facilities where NASA and ISRO are working together to test and integrate the NISAR spacecraft, which is scheduled to launch in 2024.

With the help of NISAR, a ground-breaking instrument for monitoring Earth‘s changing ecosystems, dynamic surfaces, and ice masses, scientists can learn more about natural hazards, biomass, sea level rise, and groundwater.

According to Laurie Leshin, director of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), scientists from JPL and NASA are collaborating closely on the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) mission to maximize the amount of data that is returned from the spacecraft.

Within the cylindrical radar instrument payload of the satellite are two radar systems. Nelson will attend the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference in the United Arab Emirates, making history as the first NASA administrator to do so.

Students from every nation will have the chance to meet with Nelson during the visit to talk about their roles as members of the Artemis Generation and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education.
