The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Delhi under an orange alert, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning expected tonight.

Stormy Night Ahead for Delhi: Weather Alert Issued
Delhi is expected to witness a significant weather shift tonight as the IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning. The alert comes in light of advancing monsoon activity in the northern plains.
Along with heavy showers, wind speeds during the thunderstorms could temporarily surge to 60 km/h, potentially impacting daily life and traffic flow across the capital. Authorities advise residents to remain indoors during peak activity.
Despite the storm forecast, Delhi’s air quality showed improvement this morning. With an AQI of 80, the air remains in the ‘satisfactory’ zone, providing some relief to residents from persistent pollution levels earlier this month.
The IMD has also extended orange and yellow alerts to neighboring states like East Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, with lighter warnings for areas including Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh.
As Delhi prepares for an intense spell of rain tonight, residents are advised to stay cautious, monitor updates from the IMD, and avoid unnecessary outdoor travel during storm hours.
