28°C Heatwave: Which 24 UK Counties Will Be Left Out

  • Parts of the UK are set to hit highs of 28°C by June 11.
  • 24 counties, mostly in the north and northwest, will miss the heatwave.
  • High pressure may return, bringing hot spells later in June.

A significant heatwave is forecast to sweep across much of the UK in early June, with temperatures expected to climb as high as 28°C by June 11. According to WXCharts and Met Desk data, regions in eastern England, parts of Yorkshire, and the southeast are likely to enjoy the warmest and driest conditions.

However, not all parts of the country will feel the heat. Forecasts show that 24 counties, including Lancashire, Cumbria, Durham, and Northumberland, may experience cooler and wetter conditions.

Heatwave Bypasses 24 UK Counties as South Set to Sizzle

While many in the UK brace for summer heat by mid-June, several northern and central counties are forecast to remain under cloudier skies. Counties like Westmorland, Rutland, and Cumberland are on the list of those missing out on the 28°C highs predicted elsewhere. These regions are likely to see rain showers and moderate temperatures due to Atlantic weather patterns.

The forecast also hints at early signs of high-pressure development around June 6–7, which may introduce the first wave of warmth in southern areas. James Madden from Exacta Weather highlights a potential “very hot period” emerging from the south, driven by returning high pressure. This could stretch into mid-June and bring widespread warmth, particularly for England’s southeastern corridor.

The Met Office long-range forecast, however, urges caution. It describes a “changeable” outlook for much of the UK, with short dry spells broken by wetter intervals. Though the south and southeast may enjoy the best of the summer-like weather, the north is expected to remain comparatively unsettled, with thunderstorms and lower-than-average sunshine hours.

This divide in weather patterns underlines the UK’s typically variable summer climate. While some will bask in warm sunshine, others will need to keep umbrellas close. Localised variations remain significant due to topography and prevailing wind directions, influencing how different regions experience early summer.

As summer edges in, a clear north-south divide is shaping the UK’s early June weather. While some will enjoy 28°C heat, others will continue to face cooler, unsettled skies.
