Immigration issues in Australia, the UK, and Canada

  • Canada and Australia are implementing measures to limit immigration intake.
  • Both countries aim to reduce net migration.
  • To reduce net migration, the UK unveiled a five-point plan earlier this month.

Canada and Australia are implementing measures to limit immigration intake, as they grapple with housing shortages and rising living costs, similar to Canada’s immigration plan. Both countries aim to reduce net migration.

While Canada struggles with issues related to its immigration policy, two of its rival nations that compete with it for immigrants are implementing policies that restrict the number of immigrants they accept.

To reduce net migration from 672,000 in 2023 to 300,000, the UK unveiled a five-point plan earlier this month. Australia announced new policies last week intending to reduce the number of immigrants it accepts each year from a record 510,000 in 2025 to half that number.

Both nations, like Canada, are dealing with public pressure related to housing scarcity and the skyrocketing cost of living.
