Both Qualcomm and MediaTek have released the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and the Dimensity 8300, their newest mid-range processors, following the announcement of their flagship models some time ago. These are probably going to be found in a greater number of low-cost devices, which will make them popular chips for high-performance Android phones that offer good value.
Like their more expensive siblings, these chips are supercharged with an octa-core CPU cluster with a hybrid configuration, a capable GPU, and generative AI capabilities.
Mid-range chipsets
There are two different chips available for smartphones: Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and MediaTek’s Dimensity 8300 SoC. Each has an octa-core CPU cluster, with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 having four efficient cores, three medium-performance cores, and one high-performance core in a 1:3:4 arrangement.
With one 3.35GHz core, three 3.2GHz cores, and four 2.2GHz efficiency cores, the Mediatek Dimensity has a marginally faster clock speed.
High-performance and medium-performance CPU cores based on the Arm Cortex-A710 architecture and efficiency cores based on the Arm Cortex-A510 architecture are built into both chips by TSMC utilizing a 4nm process.
Whereas the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 sports an unidentified Adreno GPU, the Dimensity 8300 employs the Arm Mali-G615 MC6 GPU. It is unknown what the Adreno graphics on the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 are capable of, despite the Dimensity 8300’s leaked AnTuTu score clocking 54,86.15 points in the GPU test.
The MediaTek APU 780 is a device that uses faster transformer-based generative AI technology to process generative AI models on devices with up to 10 billion parameters.
With Qualcomm Hexagon NPU, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is said to provide 61% more AI performance than the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. In addition to supporting enhanced 5G and Wi-Fi 6E, the Dimensity 8300 can support up to 320 MP cameras, 120Hz QHD+ resolution displays, UFS 4.0 storage standards, and up to 4K 60fps video recording.
