AI and Collaboration: Indonesia’s Strategy Against Online Gambling

The Indonesian government is harnessing artificial intelligence and machine learning to fight the proliferation of online gambling. By utilizing these technologies, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics aims to stay ahead of new gambling sites and effectively block access to them. This approach allows the system to dynamically adapt and respond to evolving patterns of online gambling.

Despite these technological advances, the sheer scale of online gambling transactions, estimated to exceed Rp300 trillion this year, presents a significant challenge. The government is working closely with the National Police, the Financial Services Authority, and other relevant bodies to implement a multi-faceted strategy. This includes blocking bank accounts associated with gambling transactions and conducting public education campaigns to prevent gambling.

In addition to technology and enforcement, educational initiatives are critical in preventing gambling. The Financial Services Authority and the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center are actively involved in blocking gambling-related accounts and stopping illicit transactions. The cooperation between these agencies helps create a more comprehensive approach to combating online gambling.

Indonesia’s strategic use of AI, combined with multi-agency collaboration, represents a significant effort to curb online gambling. By continuously updating its technology and reinforcing enforcement actions, the government aims to address the financial and societal impacts of this pervasive issue.
