Madhav Chinnappa, Director of News Ecosystem Development at Google, was let go after 13 years of service at the Mountain View-based business.
Chinnappa wrote a lengthy article on his experience at Google on LinkedIn, thanking his coworkers and saying he will miss them.

He talked about some of the highlights of his work at Google, such as the Journalism Emergency Relief Fund (#JERF), the #DigitalNewsInitiative, and the #googlenewsinitiative Innovation Challenges.
Additionally, Chinnappa spoke of persuading the Doodle team to create a Eurovision Doodle. Google let go of almost 12,000 employees in January 2023.

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, accepted full responsibility for the choice and hinted that the business may have overhired during the previous two years, during which it went through “periods of dramatic growth.”
Pichai claimed that Google needed to “match and fuel that growth” by adding workers, but that it now must shrink its personnel due to a new economic reality.
In the tech sector, layoffs have become widespread as employers like Google, Meta, and Microsoft reduce their workforce. Some businesses have cited the COVID-19 outbreak as the cause of excessive employment as things get back to normal.
