Apple is being investigated for a “hacking” alert

  • Apple has put in place a special notification system to protect and assist users.
  • Apple clarified that the alerts occasionally might be “false alarms”.
  • Users may access appleid.apple.com to verify an Apple threat notification.

Official notifications have been sent to parliamentarians Mahua Moitra, Shashi Tharoor, Priyanka Chaturvedi, and Asaduddin Owaisi on their iPhones, indicating that “state-sponsored attackers” may be attempting to access their devices.

Apple has put in place a special notification system to protect and assist users who might have been a target of these assaults. Apple has a dedicated support page for threat notifications, but it does not link the alerts to any particular state-sponsored attacker.

Hacking Alert

Apple says that attacks carried out by states are “very well-funded and sophisticated” and change over time. Apple clarified that the alerts occasionally might be “false alarms” and that the signals from threat intelligence are insufficient and incomplete for identifying such attacks.

To prevent state-sponsored attackers from changing their tactics and avoiding detection in the future, the company is unable to disclose the cause of the threat notification issue.

Apple never asks users to do things like open files, install apps or profiles, click links, or reveal their Apple ID password or verification code over the phone or through email when they receive threat alerts. Users may access appleid.apple.com to verify an Apple threat notification.

The European Commission has given its approval to a broader prohibition on “behavioral advertising” on Facebook and Instagram that targets users by gathering personal data.

The US tech business Meta Platforms, which has resisted efforts to restrict behavioral advertising, feels that this decision is a blow. Improvements in download speeds, the increasing use of smartphones, and reasonably priced data plans are expected to propel the Indian gaming industry to a $7.5 billion valuation by 2028, according to a report by the European data regulator.
