After defeating Esmee Bobner and Zoe Verge-Depre of Switzerland, Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson of Canada progressed to the beach volleyball world championship quarterfinals.
On Friday, they will compete for a berth in the women’s semifinals against Australians Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar, who are rated sixth. They are the last surviving Canadians at the function.

Niina Ahtiainen and Taru Lahti-Liukkonen of Finland lost 2-0 (21-17, 21-17) on Wednesday in the round of 32, setting up the No. 4 rated combination in the world for Thursday’s encounter.
The unbeaten duo of Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson advanced to the playoff stages with ease after winning all three of their Pool D matches.
These are the only Canadians still present at the tournament after, on the men’s side, Richmond Hill, Ontario’s Sam Schachter and Toronto’s Dan Dearing were eliminated in the round of 32 on Wednesday, along with Kitchener, Ontario’s Sarah Pavan and Molly McBain.
