WTC Final 2025: Australia and South Africa Ready for Battle at Lord’s

The ICC World Test Championship Final 2025 between Australia and South Africa is set to be a clash of titans. Both teams named formidable squads for the highly anticipated contest at Lord’s. Australia’s 15-member lineup sees the return of key players, including Cameron Green and Pat Cummins. They missed several matches due to injuries. Josh Hazlewood was initially named, but his place was taken by Michael Neser due to a shoulder concern.

South Africa has opted for a formidable pace attack, featuring Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, and the returning Lungi Ngidi. The Proteas also included Ryan Rickelton and Kyle Verreynne as wicketkeeping options. This provides depth in both batting and fielding. The team’s preparation, however, is under threat due to the IPL scheduling clash. Several players are expected to return only days before the final.

Australia’s lineup remains relatively unchanged from the squad that secured a series win against India. Travis Head and Usman Khawaja are likely to retain their places as openers. However, selectors are contemplating whether to elevate Marnus Labuschagne to the opening position. His consistency at No.3 and Sam Konstas’ inexperience in English conditions are considerations.

For South Africa, the focus will be on executing their fast-bowling strategy on the potentially seamer-friendly Lord’s pitch. Kagiso Rabada, who missed the last series due to suspension, will spearhead the attack. Ngidi and Jansen will provide ample support. The inclusion of Senuran Muthusamy as an all-round option also adds depth to the middle order.

As both Australia and South Africa gear up for the World Test Championship Final, their respective squads reflect a balance of experienced campaigners and emerging talents. This sets the stage for an intense battle at Lord’s.

“Every setback is a setup for a comeback.” – Cameron Green, returning to the WTC Final squad after a long injury layoff.
