  • The BJP Legislature Party meets at 7 PM to elect the new CM.
  • The swearing-in ceremony is set for February 20 at Ramlila Maidan.
  • Top contenders include Parvesh Verma, Rekha Gupta, and Shikha Roy.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to name its new Chief Minister for Delhi today following a historic victory in the 2025 Assembly elections. The decision will be made at a legislative party meeting, with the final approval coming from the party’s parliamentary board.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place on February 20 at Ramlila Maidan, expected to draw over 50,000 attendees, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leaders.

BJP Set to Form New Government in Delhi

The BJP’s return to power in Delhi marks a significant political shift, ending AAP’s decade-long rule. The party’s strategy of focusing on governance and anti-corruption measures played a crucial role in securing the victory. The defeat of AAP, which won only 22 seats, has sparked internal debates within the party about its future direction. Meanwhile, Congress failed to win any seats for the third consecutive term.

The selection of the Chief Minister is a critical decision for BJP, as it will set the tone for its governance in Delhi. Reports suggest that the party is considering appointing a woman CM, which would be a historic first for Delhi. Possible names include Rekha Gupta and Shikha Roy, both first-time MLAs with strong party credentials. The BJP’s leadership has emphasized that the decision will align with its long-term vision for the capital.

Security arrangements for the oath-taking ceremony are extensive, with over 5,000 personnel deployed across the venue. Delhi Police have also issued traffic advisories to manage congestion around Ramlila Maidan. The grand event will see the participation of top BJP leaders and celebrities, reinforcing the party’s commitment to celebrating its return to power with the public.

As BJP prepares to take charge, expectations are high for policy changes in key sectors such as education, infrastructure, and public safety. The party has promised to focus on urban development and law enforcement, aiming to bring a more structured and accountable governance model to the capital. With the swearing-in ceremony just hours away, all eyes are on who will take the helm of Delhi’s administration.

The BJP’s choice for Delhi’s next Chief Minister will define the party’s governance approach in the capital. With a historic win behind them, the new leadership faces the challenge of delivering on promises and setting a new political course for Delhi.
