8 People were Killed at Birthday Party in South Africa

Police said that eight people were killed and three were wounded by the gunmen at a birthday party in South Africa at the weekend before fleeing.

Officers never gave any information about a motive for the shooting on Sunday. The incident follows a  mass gun attack last year that shocked the nation.

Within hours of each other, 19 people were shot and killed by gunmen in July and this is a shocking incident for the people of South Africa.

Nomthetheleli Lillian Mene, Commissioner of the Eastern Cape South African Police Service, said these victims were killed by criminals, and they aren’t going to rest until they discover what happened and who is responsible for the attack on the unsuspecting victims.

The police said that two attackers carried out the shooting in Kwazakele, Gqeberha, South Africa on Sunday afternoon.

A family member of Vusumzi, Chinese Tys, said both of her brothers Vusumzi and Andile Sishuba were shot and killed when they were celebrating Vusumzi’s birthday.

In response to Reuters’ questions, she told them that the family was shocked and disbelieved. Now, two people are still taking treatment in the hospital who are injured people and the third wounded person was discharged from the hospital.

South Africa is one of the places with the world’s highest murder rates which is calculated as around 20,000 people killed every year out of a population of 60 million.

On Monday, the site of the shooting is visited by Police Minister Bheki Cele. Based on the thought of the campaign group Gun Free South Africa that there are about 3 million registered guns used in the country whereas there are many more unregistered guns.
