One of the most overlooked factors is room size. In smaller spaces—especially under 200 square feet—diffused oil concentrations can exceed safe thresholds by up to 800%. Poor ventilation adds to the danger, allowing these compounds to linger and accumulate well after diffusion has stopped.

Children’s brains are still learning to regulate serotonin and other neurochemicals, making them vulnerable to disruptions from external sources. Unlike adults, their neurological systems are not yet equipped to process or neutralize aromatic compounds effectively, which makes frequent use of diffusers risky.
