Severe rainfall in several areas of south Tamil Nadu resulted in waterlogging and conditions akin to flooding. Roads, bridges, and paddy fields were all drowned, and several residential colonies were covered in water. Rainfall at Kayalpattinam, Thoothukudi district, reached 95 cm, a record for Tamil Nadu in recent memory.

More than 50 centimeters of rain fell in several areas, such as Manjolai in the Tirunelveli district (55 cm) and Gundar Dam in the Tenkasi district (51 cm). Several other regions saw extremely severe rains, including Palayamkottai near Tirunelveli (44 CM) and Tirunelveli (30 CM).

Party cadres from the districts devastated by the rain have been directed by State Chief Minister MK Stalin to participate in the ongoing relief efforts. He keeps an eye on the relief efforts and communicates with authorities.

As torrential rains batter southern Tamil Nadu, planes are probably affected. Several flights headed for Tuticorin have been canceled or diverted. K Annamalai, the chief of the state BJP, has opened kitchens and encouraged BJP members to assist in rescue efforts.

Army, Navy, and Air Force resources have been called upon due to the exceptional rains and flooding. December 18 is a public holiday in four areas, according to the government.

Large-scale flooding occurred in residential areas like Nagercoil’s Meenakshi Garden and Railway Colony. Personnel from the fire department, rescue squad, and disaster response team quickly removed any stranded residents.
