- Monsoon likely to hit Delhi by the end of June.
- Extensive rain expected in southern and northeastern states in the coming days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a significant weather shift for northwest India, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab. Heavy rainfall is predicted from June 28 to June 30, bringing relief from the ongoing heatwave.
Light rains in parts of Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram have already begun to lower temperatures, with the monsoon expected to arrive in Delhi by the end of the month.
Monsoon Rains Set to Alleviate Heatwave Conditions Across India
Beyond northwest India, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Kerala, and Karnataka over the next few days. States such as Goa, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh will also experience light to moderate rains. The IMD’s forecast includes heavy rainfall for northeastern states like Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam, ensuring widespread precipitation across the country.
The northeastern states, including Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam, are forecasted to receive continuous rainfall over the next five days. This widespread precipitation is anticipated to benefit these regions by improving water availability and supporting agricultural activities. The rain will also help to mitigate the effects of the prolonged dry spells experienced in these areas.
East and central parts of India, including Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha, will also see light to moderate rainfall in the coming days. The IMD has emphasized that the rains will be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in some areas, urging residents to remain cautious. The overall outlook suggests a notable shift in weather patterns, signaling the onset of the monsoon season across the country.
The upcoming rainfall forecast by the IMD offers a much-needed respite from the intense heatwave affecting many parts of India. This shift towards monsoon conditions is expected to bring widespread relief, improve water resources, and support agricultural activities across the affected regions.
“Rainfall activity is likely to increase over northwest India with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely during 28th-30th June,” the IMD said in its latest weather forecast.
