Four awards have been created by rationalizing the 16 gallantry/service medals, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The government unveiled the annual gallantry/service awards on the eve of the 75th Republic Day on Thursday. 1132 employees from a variety of agencies, including the police, fire department, home guards, civil defense, and corrections service, received medals for their gallantry.
Gallantry awards
16 gallantry/service awards were combined by the Ministry of Home Affairs to create four new medals: the Medal for Gallantry (GM), the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PMG), the President‘s Medal for Gallantry (PMG), and the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM).
The 277 medals in the PMG category are divided into three categories: 119 are for deeds in places impacted by Left Wing Extremism, 25 are for other regions, and 133 are for gallantry in Jammu and Kashmir.
The two PMGs are for Border Security Force soldiers. Four medals each for civil defense and fire service and ninety-four for police make up the 102 in the Distinguished Service/Meritorious Service category. Sixty-seven police, thirty-two fire, and twenty-seven civil defense and penal personnel receive medals out of the total of 753.
