Return of the “Encantada” by National Artist Agnes Locsin

This April, just in time for the celebration of Earth Month, a multi-award-winning dance masterpiece that aims to increase public awareness of environmental issues will make a theatrical comeback.

Agnes Locsin, a National Artist for Dance, will perform her ballet “Encantada” on April 14 and 15 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater and on April 21 and 22 at the Metropolitan Theater.

The “Encantada”

While drawing attention to the results of man’s devastation of nature, the program “explores Filipino folklore, history, and culture.”

Artists from the Professional Artist Support Program and Alice Reyes Dance Philippines (ARDP) will participate in the forthcoming performance.

  • Agnes Locsin will perform her ballet “Encantada” on April 14 and 15.
  • The program raises awareness of the effects of man’s destruction of nature.
  • This album was created by Salvador Bernal, Al Santos, Locsin, and Joey Ayala together.

According to ARDP president Tats Manahan, Agnes Locsin’s “Encantada” is not only dance for the sake of dancing; rather, it is based on substantial study and incorporates elements of Philippine history, folk religion, traditions, and practices into the overall composition.

The environmental degradation presented in Locsin’s masterpiece, which was completed 31 years ago, stands out as the most important subject. Rehearsing and rewatching are both strongly suggested, Manahan added.

Production designer Salvador Bernal, playwright Al Santos, award-winning playwright Locsin, and composer Joey Ayala worked together to create “Encantada.” In February 1992, it made its debut.

The most recent staging of the play occurred in 2011, with much praise and 10 Gawad Buhay Awards.
