Following in the footsteps of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Ruben Studdard, 21-year-old Carter is an artist from California. From Season 21, Iam Tongi was the winner. Carter sang “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish, winner of the Academy Award, again, and she expressed her love of creating art.
Katy Perry’s resignation from the show after serving as a judge for seven seasons was another event of the evening. In tribute to Perry, the Top 12 ladies sang a medley of her hits after she sang What Makes a Woman with Blocker. Perry’s Season 23 replacement has not yet been revealed by ABC.
Carter, a California State University, San Bernardino psychology graduate, said she has always loved American Idol and thinks this is just her doing it. She earned her psychology undergraduate degree in May 2023 with honors, summa cum laude.
