The $26.1 million box office record belongs to the Barbie

Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig, made $26.1 million on Monday at American box offices, making it the 13th-highest-grossing Monday overall and the greatest Monday ever for Warner Bros.

The domestic gross of the film is already $188.1 million, and on Tuesday it is anticipated to surpass $200 million.

Box office record

With $24.5 million, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight previously held the record for Warners’ highest Monday. The highest domestic debut ever for a female director, Barbie debuted to a record $162 million.

The movie, along with Nolan’s movie, contributed to the fourth-largest American box office weekend ever. This is the first occasion in recorded history that one film debuted to at least $100 million and another to at least $50 million.

  • Barbie grossed $26.1 million, 13th-highest-grossing Monday for Warner Bros.
  • Film debuts at $100 million, Nolan’s film at $50 million.
  • Nolan’s domestic debut was Oppenheimer’s atomic bomb.

The historical drama Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, surprised predictions with a $82.4 million domestic opening.

Three-hour, R-rated history drama about J-Robert Oppenheimer and the development of the atomic bomb ranked Nolan’s third-biggest domestic debut.

The Flash, Elemental, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One were also exceeded by this summer’s movies.
