Seth Rogen Accuses the Detractors of “Hurting Many People”

th Rogen has received plenty of criticism over the years, and while it may be tempting to think that the comedic actor can simply brush off critical criticism, Rogen has been honest about the toll it takes.

During his talk about his career and touching on self-doubt and mental health, Rogen attacked critics who don’t consider how a negative review can affect everyone who works on a movie.

Bad Reviews

He stated to the CEO Diary podcast: “I believe that most reviewers would reconsider their writing if they realized how much it hurts the people who created the things they are criticizing. It’s disastrous. Sincerely, I know people who have suffered from it for years or even decades and never fully healed.

Rogen was explicitly questioned about the underwhelming reviews for his 2011 film The Green Hornet and how they contrasted to some of these other films, like The Interview, which also received particularly terrible reviews.

Seth Rogen is aware that sometimes it doesn’t matter since as an actor, director, or writer, people engaged in the film have typically gone on to their next project, even though the sting of a critical review might linger for a while.

That’s another funny thing about making movies, he said. The world goes on. It’s funny how you can be working on a different film when your [current] film is failing. It’s sour and sweet. Everything will be fine, you know. You are currently at work.

In case you are worried that the movie will fail and you will not be hired again, you don’t have to worry. But occasionally, it presents an emotional dilemma.
