  • Mufasa earned Rs 74.25 crore in its first week, with Rs 6.6 crore on its second Friday.
  • The film is outpacing Bollywood releases, such as Baby John, in box office earnings.
  • Shah Rukh Khan’s Hindi version and Mahesh Babu’s dubbed versions are contributing significantly to its success.

The live-action Mufasa: The Lion King, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Mahesh Babu, is making waves at the Indian box office, surpassing Rs 80 crore in collections by the second Friday.

Its strong performance indicates that the film is on track to outperform expectations, despite trailing the record set by the 2019 The Lion King.

Mufasa: The Lion King’ Beats Bollywood Films at the Box Office

The film’s English original has emerged as the top contributor with Rs 29.15 crore, followed closely by the Hindi version at Rs 27.1 crore. The Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions have also played a significant role in pushing the film’s total earnings to new heights. The film’s ability to compete with major Bollywood releases further highlights its growing appeal.

The movie is currently outperforming Bollywood films like Baby John, which earned Rs 3.65 crore, almost half of what Mufasa achieved on the same day. The film’s strong earnings in its second week suggest it may surpass the collections of its 2019 predecessor.

The high-performing English version of the film earned Rs 29.15 crore, while the Hindi version closely followed with Rs 27.1 crore. The Tamil and Telugu versions, although behind, still contributed significantly with Rs 12.65 crore and Rs 11.95 crore, respectively.

This success marks Mufasa as one of the highest-grossing Hollywood films in India for 2024, positioning it as a strong contender in the box office race.

Mufasa: The Lion King has firmly established itself as a box office hit in India, driven by stellar voice acting and strong regional performances.

“Films can cross boundaries and bridge cultures—Mufasa: The Lion King is proof of that, with its immense success in the Indian market.”
