MAMI Film Festival 2023
With more than 40 world premieres, 45 Asian premieres, and 70 South Asian premieres, the 2023 Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival is expected to break previous records. The South Asian program alone received 1000 submissions.
The esteemed Excellence in Cinema Award will be given to directors Mani Ratnam and Luca Guadagnino. Renowned Indian cinematographer Ratnam is well-known for his films “Nayakan,” “Roja,” “Bombay,” “Iruvar,” “Dil Se…,” “Alaipayuthey,” and “Guru.”
The well-regarded films “A Bigger Splash,” “Call Me By Your Name,” “Suspiria,” and “Challengers” are among the works of auteur filmmaker Guadagnino’s repertoire. The French government is going to bestow upon actor Richa Chadha the esteemed title of “Chevalier dans l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres”.
On the fringes of the festival, Jean-Marc Sere-Charlet, the French consul general in Mumbai, will present the award.
The highly regarded film “Masaan” starring Richa Chadha was a joint venture between France and India and took home two important Cannes Film Festival prizes. The festival will feature Tannishtha Chatterjee’s “Yellow Bus,” which tells the story of Ananda, a migrant mother who encounters a terrible incident that changes her life.
A number of well-known stars, business leaders, and accomplished filmmakers will also be present at the event, including Luca Guadagnino, Hansal Mehta, Ekta Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, Sonam Kapoor, Karan Johar, Kamal Hassan, Mani Ratnam, and Ali Fazal.
