  • Clashes broke out after protests demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb escalated into violence.
  • Over 50 people were detained, and an indefinite curfew was imposed in affected areas.
  • Maharashtra CM Fadnavis condemned the violence and assured strict legal action.

The protests, led by right-wing groups like the VHP and Bajrang Dal, demanded the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb in Khuldabad. Tensions escalated after reports of religious desecration surfaced, leading to stone-pelting, arson, and violent clashes.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condemned the violence, stating that attacks on police personnel and civilians would not be tolerated. He emphasized that while Aurangzeb’s tomb is a protected site, any glorification of his legacy would not be permitted.

Maharashtra Curfew: Nagpur Erupts Over Aurangzeb’s Tomb Protest

The violence erupted in Nagpur’s Mahal area after demonstrations demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb intensified. Protestors reportedly burned an effigy of the Mughal emperor, leading to counter-violence from opposing groups. The clashes resulted in injuries to civilians and law enforcement officials.

Police have detained over 50 individuals linked to the violence and are investigating the involvement of organized groups. Authorities suspect premeditated attacks, as targeted arson and property destruction were reported. The government has vowed strict legal consequences for all involved.

Fadnavis stated that while historical grievances are valid, public disorder will not be tolerated. He reassured citizens that law enforcement is taking all necessary measures to restore peace and prevent further incidents.

The curfew remains in effect, with heavy police deployment in sensitive areas. The administration has urged residents to refrain from spreading misinformation and inciting further unrest.

The Nagpur violence underscores the fragile nature of historical tensions in India, highlighting the need for a balanced approach to heritage and communal harmony.
