Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Jammu and Kashmir on June 6 marks a transformative moment in India’s infrastructure development. The centerpiece of this visit is the inauguration of the Chenab Bridge, the world’s tallest railway arch bridge, and the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge.
In addition to the rail initiatives, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation for crucial road projects including the Rafiabad–Kupwara stretch and the Shopian bypass, along with inaugurating flyovers to ease urban congestion.
Chenab and Anji Bridges Signal New Era of Connectivity in Jammu & Kashmir
The Chenab Bridge, towering at 359 meters above the river, is an engineering feat built to withstand extreme seismic conditions and wind speeds. It is not just a symbol of progress, but also a strategic asset capable of supporting defense logistics in border regions.
Meanwhile, the Anji Bridge showcases innovation in cable-stayed bridge construction. This first-of-its-kind railway bridge in India was completed despite tough geological and climatic challenges, underlining the technical prowess of Indian infrastructure teams.
The broader USBRL project, of which these bridges are part, includes 36 tunnels and 943 bridges over 272 kilometers. This will provide seamless, all-weather connectivity to the Kashmir Valley, strengthening trade, tourism, and mobility for residents.
Complementing these transport developments, the Prime Minister’s itinerary includes healthcare and road upgrades. From a new ₹350 crore medical institute in Katra to major highways and flyovers, the projects are designed to improve daily life and enable sustainable development in Jammu & Kashmir.
These landmark projects are not only structural achievements but also embodiments of India‘s commitment to inclusive growth, national unity, and regional empowerment.
