Lawrence Wong, the recently appointed prime minister of Singapore, has received recognition for her timeless, modest style, which was evident at several high-profile events.
Thanks in part to her husband’s government position, Ms. Loo Tze Lui, a wealth management professional, has received recognition for her grace and attractiveness. She even has some people comparing her appearance to a K-drama heroine.
Fashion battle
Not every personal style decision made by Mdm Ho, the engineer who led Temasek Holdings from 2004 to 2021, has been as effective. Some even said that she would need to hire a stylist to make her look better. She has previously received criticism for her appearance, particularly during state ceremonies. She received criticism in particular for frequently donning open-toed footwear.
In contrast to the other Singaporean delegation members, who were reportedly dressed more appropriately, she was pictured on a 2017 visit to the White House wearing flip-flops.
While some have praised her for appearing “authentic” and advised her to “stay true to herself,” others have said that she more closely resembled an ah ma or “market auntie.” Though Mdm Ho has continued to wear open-toed shoes to formal events like the ASEAN summit gala in November 2018 and when she met former US Vice President Mike Pence and his wife the same week, she doesn’t seem to be phased by the criticism.
Perhaps the two women won’t need to engage in a fashion showdown or face-off after all, with all eyes on the new prime minister and his wife.
