In a shooting outside a convention center in Ottawa’s south end, two individuals were killed and six others were injured. The fatalities have been identified as Toronto residents Said Mohamed Ali, 26, and Abdishakur Abdi-Dahir, 29.
In the incident, six additional people were hurt and hospitalized, but none of them were in critical condition. There is no suspect description at this time, and Ottawa police homicide investigators are looking into every investigative angle.
The Gunshot
Eric Stubbs, the chief of the Ottawa Police, paid a visit to the scene of the investigation on Sunday after the gunshot that took place outside the building. Although none of the injured were in life-threatening condition, according to the paramedics, the police investigation is still ongoing.
The shooting was “a very tragic incident at a wedding of all occasions,” said councilor Jessica Bradley of the Gloucester-Southgate district. She voiced concern for the neighborhood’s safety and the potential that the shooting might not have been connected to gang or city activity.
The OPS should be contacted between 10 and 10:30 p.m. if you have any witnesses or recording equipment. The police are contacting local authorities because the violence is awful and intolerable and because they want to make sure the victims’ relatives are helped.
The homicide unit can be reached at 613-236-1222, ext. 5493 if you have any information. These were the 11th and 12th homicides to occur in Ottawa in 2023.
